Internships: Programming and Astronomy
My first internship took place during the winter of 2017 at the GRAD MAP Winter Workshop at the University of Maryland. During this program, I had my first exposure to programming in Python. Under the guidance of Dr. Peter Teuben, I used Python to analyze galaxy data, which allowed me to develop foundational programming skills and gain experience in astronomical data analysis.
Later, in the summer of 2017, I worked as a Summer Student at the Space Telescope Science Institute (STScI). Under the supervision of Dr. Henry Ferguson, I worked on processing simulated data to evaluate the quality of observations from the Large Synoptic Survey Telescope (LSST) located in Chile. During this internship, I also attended lectures on ongoing research in astronomy and astrophysics and gained exposure to the different processes involved in the construction and development of the James Webb Space Telescope.

Space Exploration: Project Possum
In April 2024, I participated as a student in Project PoSSUM (Polar Suborbital Science in the Upper Mesosphere), an educational and research program developed by the International Institute for Astronautical Sciences (IIAS). As part of this experience, I successfully completed the AST101 course, which provided foundational training in space sciences, upper atmospheric research, and astronautical operations. Following the completion of AST101, I continued my training through multiple virtual courses offered by the program, further expanding my knowledge in areas related to space science, aerospace operations, and scientific research. Project PoSSUM is designed to prepare students and professionals for advanced research in the upper mesosphere and suborbital environments through rigorous academic instruction and applied scientific learning.

Aviation: Flying towards the biggest goal
I am currently pursuing my aviation training at ProFlight in Argentina, a step that required me to move from Costa Rica to study abroad, turning this journey into a transformative personal and professional experience. On November 17, I earned my Private Pilot License (PPL) and am now continuing my studies toward a Commercial Pilot License (CPL). Training outside my home country has challenged me to grow independently, adapt to new environments, and embrace diverse perspectives, all while deepening my technical and operational skills in aviation. This experience has further strengthened my passion for exploring the world through flight and advancing toward the broader goal of space exploration, where international collaboration, resilience, and a global mindset are essential.
